this quarter in change from the store. It is a 1998 D Washington quarter it has quite a few errors I believe. It is in kind of rough circulated shape you can see the scratches. I've taken all the pictures I know to take and uploading them with this post. This coin weighs 5.6 grams and as you can see from the photo of the entire coin it seems stretched and not perfectly Circle the rim of this coin is huge it is a double metal like a copper and nickel like the coin is countersunk into something else almost I don't know how else to explain it.... Can anyone happen to be able to tell me if it is an error coin other than the rim? What is it called, how did this happen, and maybe what
worth...Thanks in advance y'all!

to CCF. Not an error. It looks like a spooned coin or maybe a Dryer Coin.

To the CCF

No errors on that coin its PMD (Post strike damage)
The marks are from circulation and as John1 stated,
the raised rims are probably caused by getting stuck
in a dryer and having the rims worn down.
For more examples, see http://goccf.com/t/143863

No extra value.

To CCF! Just a Dryer Coin. There's no extra value. It's only worth face value.

Someone trying to make a coin ring? An amateur, if so.

PSD. (Post-Strike-Damaged) No premium for a damaged coin. Damage, dipped in acid/jewelry clearner, plated, squeezed in a vise or hammered, sanded, attaching glue to coin, soldered, heated, found outdoors, polished, painted or any other alteration. Removes value to them, even if there were a variety. A premium would be a coin with the natural finish on the coin. Any alteration to a coin is not a mint error. PSD.
