Apparently I'm looking for trouble again. I'm walking down the 1922 alley alone and at night but can't resist getting a little 22 fever going. Look at this redheaded stepchild ain't it a trip? I got it on the bay, about split my coffee when I saw it. I almost lost but I had been looking everywhere for this smudged out cent and walla I found it the coattails yeah! Don't have reverse pics as seller just couldn't get them clearly but he sent me these. Well, what grade do you think? no cheating by ebay history search.

That's an awfully deteriorated die strike, and unless the reverse has a very distinguishing telltale, can it even be attributed at all? Could be, but pennies could be dollars at nite too, seem to dream about that all the time! Keep waking up thinking I'm rich...

Reverse would be nice.

F12? What? The...?!?! Come on, the reverse would have to have full feathered wheat stalks and only three dings to average a Fine BT! Good grief! Cammy, I'll stab an FR02/AG03 counting on reverse having strong indications of die pair.

Remember how weak the devices on these coins were crazyb0, any wear was greatly exaggerated, a lot of these came out of the mint with no wheat stalks and a barely completed ear. I would guess VG 10.

AdamE, and I'll show you G04's in plastic coffins that look way better than the OP's! And yes I am quite aware of "die states " as pertains to the 22Ds, check past conversations with Cammy even!

Guys Guys please stop fighting . 1st. of all I don't believe it's a 22 anything . It looks more like a 1924-P . And without seeing the reverse ,I would call it FR-2 .

Hey folks, will get decent pics loaded as soon as coin arrives. Asking for a grade opinion's without better pics is ignorant of me. FR and AG omg I might be in trouble with this purchase. Here's a hint, its slabbed in an old blue ANAC holder so anything could go grade wise.

Looks more like strike weakness than wear, but I'll reserve an opinion until we see the reverse.

I also think F-12 is pushing it a bit at this point.

The OP coin almost has cheek/jaw separation and even a bit of red color too. Is this an AG coin too? Grading is all about wear, not die state. Don't feel bad though Crazy, the majority of "internet grading experts" can't grade 1922D's.

Pics of the reverse would help. I am all ready for someone to start berating my grade opinion.

Wow ANACS, they see cheek and jaw separation and enough obverse detail to justify VF. However, without a gradable reverse not sure how they can justify a 30. In my experience moving up the VF ladder is done by evaluating the wheat lines and this coin has none. ANACS should have only gone VF-20 IMO.
GREAT DISCUSSION COIN! Thanks for posting this one.
