themaineway Valued Member United States 92 Posts	Posted 09/05/2018 11:53 am tossed up, some seem to appear as a md or maybe a tiny bit of Grease Filled Die? but others such as the bottom leg of the E of "one" and the middle leg of the "e" in cent appear as dd do? I have tried overlays, and size comparison on my comp screen and they appear (with my limited ability) to be enlarged in size not decreased, their almost the same in height and The die stage looks to be fairly early to mid. I realize this is a single squeeze year and usually dd in the center just this one seems odd? Any help ( *** PLEASE if you would, give a little reason as to why "if you think it is md" on this coin as I know you are constantly shown easy to identify md coins ALL the time, so that we/I may learn) will be welcomed and Thank you in advance for your time and help Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 09/05/2018 12:17 pm Slight Machine Doubling. Note how the affected area is lower than the normal device? After the strike the machine moved ever so slightly and altered that area of the devices. Not a doubled die. A doubled die would enlarge the size of the devices. This is random. From strike to the next it can be different: Also it can vary from one device to the next: Doubled dies are consistent from strike to strike because the doubling is on the die, not caused by the machine. Machine Doubling is fairly common. So no premium for these. Report this Post to the Staff

I write this reply because I noticed another post today 9/7 that again said "do not look at the edges of devices" yet I see soooo many "listed" dd's that are (to me) clearly on the edges of devices and that "I would say" look like md PLEASE understand I am not trying to be confrontational or a pita. Really I'm not..it just seems to happen. lol I REALLY do appreciate EVERYONE's time and the sharing of their knowledge, I'm just trying to get better at spotting dd's as soooo many of the listed dd's are so minute, and from what I have seen in pics alot look to be on the edges of devices (hence back to the quote...dont look at the edges) There nothing like the 1995,1972,1955 etc dd's (I know.. different class's of dd's) So with the new pic supplied is this md or a dd on the EDGES of the devices? Variety Vista and Wexler only list the Bar cent reverses for this year. Wexler lists 52, Variety Vista 17. So another year to simplify for DDR's Report this Post to the Staff
