Here's my latest purchase. How would you grade it? I'll post the dealer's grade and my own opinions after I get some of yours. Thanks!

pictures are kinda small to accurately give a grade, the obverse appears to have suffered some pvc damage.

Au58. Looks dipped with the obverse retoning. Can't tell much about obverse surface but the reverse surface does not look original.

Better pics from different angles will help.

This is just another (of many!) lightly circulated 1879-O Morgan dollars out in Coinland. Yours looks to have some sort of weird obverse toning that may be artificial. Really can't tell too much from the quality of these pictures. I would imagine the dealer's labeled grade was something like "High Grade w/Gorgeous Toning!" ..... (Or something like that.)

Photos, not scans, are needed.

lacks eye appeal for me...may well be UNC details, or genuine...altered surfaces. hard one to judge

Quote: You can tell the difference between photos and scans? How? Dull surfaces and light direction are first and foremost tell tales of scanned images. The obverse was dipped and intentionally re-toned. Unfortunately, TPG's will likely QC it.

I'll stand by my original evaluation:
AU with questionable toning and that the dealer's description was something like "High Grade Unc w/Gorgeous Toning!"
