The Golden Horde a branch of the Mongol Empire that ruled a vast area from Russia in the Northwest to lands bordering the Black Sea. The Golden Horde was founded by Batu Khan a grandson of Ghenghis Khan in the 1240's and lasted until circa 1502.

Jani Beg, who's full name was Jalal al-Din Mahmud Jani Beg, was the son of Uzbeg Khan the longest reigning Khan 1313-1341. Jani Beg seceded in 1341 and ruled until 1357.

Excellent addition, Ron. Interesting how tight the flan is in relation to the design.

Thanks Bob, I find these Mongol coin very historical. Up until recently I really had very little interest in Islamic type coinage, that left out a lot of history that I was not exploring.

I agree Ron--you miss out on tons of history if you just focus on the medieval coins of Europe.

All the cool kids eventually find Islamic coins . Christendom was but one tiny corner of the medieval word.
