Looks the the D may have moved or another D is struck underneath. Skeptical because of the amount of damage on the cent.

The magnification in your picture is not adequate to see the MM. need a close up of the MM itself.However I doubt it is anything above and beyond damage on the area in question.

I can see area in question, it is quite obvious that a contact has cut and pushed the lower portion of the D and moved metal to the left. 1974 is not a year for "Dramatic RPMS.

Probably just a well placed hit, causing the metal to get pushed over and flattened. If that's the case, then it's damage and not an error.
