Your guess is correct. The date is flattened from circulation wear. It's safe to spend it.

You're welcome. I'm glad that you're saving it in your Copper Cent jar. I do the same thing, except I only save the Wheat Cents, for their Copper content (to be clear, I have no intentions whatsoever of melting them).
