Came across this 2017 P quarter ELLIS ISLAND with Die Chip that I cannot find anywhere else that looks like that.

Die chips on these things are very common. Maybe not in the exact location as yours but scattered throughout the series of these quarters.

I heard, that these designs are often very rough on the dies, causing them (the ATB Quarter dies) to chip easier.

Any time you have high relief coin designs nd incused devices, there is weaknesses. They know it, so why keep doing it? That is the definition of insanity....doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results!

Because it's Philly. Their track record of poor quality control is off the chart legendary. I often said, they should take all the Denver Mint employees and move them to Philly... and take all the Philly employees and move them to Denver. Some have said there would be a dramatic change at Philly.

The quality control is getting better though. It used to be much worse years ago.
