Unfortunately the pictures don't show how pretty the toning is in this penny. Could it be the matte proof?

Thank you GrapeCollects, I did look at those links you sent. All I read though was: Flat Rim Colorful toning And from the forum post : die scratches under the date

In determining any Matte Proof Lincoln , sharp close up pics are needed to make a call . All markers must show also .

I dont know if its coincidence or a marker, but here is a photo of a 1916 proof with a black looking dot above the date ...same place as mine

Just a normal business strike cent.  The design was stronger that year.   Note the clearness of the strike on the coin on the right. Normal strike on the left.
