Thank You all. After giving it some thought, I think I will leave this one alone. I have some dug indian heads and much worse looking large cents I can try the verdi care on. This is my best dug large cent, and I am happy with it as is. Thank you all for your help.

This is how I left it. I feel like some of the surface would flake away is I used verdicare. I've been keeping it in a 2X2.

Amazing find. Given it's age and the length of time it has spent in the ground ... it seems to be in pretty decent shape all things considered. Congratulations.

with not using VC on this one. It needs to remain as original as possible.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I am going to leave this one alone and just use it on some of my dug indian heads, which are shaping up to be really nice with the VC. Are any of you interested in seeing how the indian heads came out? I wouldn't have any "before" pics, but I could certainly show them after treatment.

I think you've made a good decision. Practice on some other coins. I've cleaned a lot of my LC finds, and some look better, but some look much worse. The dirt and the flaky material provide the detail. Sometimes they are less identifiable after cleaning.
