I couldn't decide if I should post my coins here or the metal detecting forum. Please move if this does not fit here.

I dug this 1802 Draped bust today, and I believe it to be the stemless variety. My questions are, am I correct? Would this be a VF details corrosion? and although it was dug, does it still maintain any value? Thank you all for your opinions ahead of time. All opinions are welcome and taken into consideration.

As a metal detecting find that's insanely cool. As a numismatic item also insane! Worth a few hundred in current condition! Great find!

Stemless with great details...a little lite wash to get the dirt off.

Excellent dig!

As mentioned, it is No Stems. It would probably grade Details, but it needs to be rehabbed a little first.

It definitely has numismatic value in that condition!

There were two stemless wreath reverse dies that year, one used on S-231 and the other on S-242, this is S-231. Both varieties are R-1 very common.

I looked into it more myself. Looks like ones with corrosion go for around $20-$25 on ebay. That's when they actually do sell. Still pretty good for something that I found in the ground.

Sorry to re-bump this, but I had another question about this coin. I just got in some verdi-care, and was wondering whether or not I should use it on this coin. I have gotten most of the gunk off of it, and was wondering if it would be worth it for preservation.

Always worth trying to save any coin that is that old.

Are there any negative effect that verdi care may have on it?

I'd use the Verdicare, it might improve the appearance.

I doubt the Verdi-care will help it, but I don't see how it could hurt it to try it.

It looks like a natural dug coin as is; using Verdi-care will likely leave it more blotchy and less natural-looking. I would leave well enough alone.
