Here's a counterstamped 1857. Dr. George G. Wilkins was a dentist in Pittsfield, N.H. Note that the force of the blow split the planchet and made for an unusually strong counterstamp. It's been estimated that he stamped upwards of 100,000 coins in his lifetime. Dave Bowers wrote a fascinating book about him.

Cross-eyed, yours is the same variety as mine (clashed w/a Seated Liberty half dollar) although yours is in a bit higher grade.

I saw that after I had posted.
How did they get those two mixed up together anyhow?Seems like it would have been easy to tell a 50c die and a 1c die apart?Just wondering.
