That's a die crack, and a big one at that. In that location we call that a spiked head and it has a small premium over face value. Oh, and to CCF!

Thank you guys so much for the info it is actually even larger it runs from rim to back of ear and also brances off along top of hair. So is it a keeper or are there many like mine?

It is for sure a keeper. It might only be worth a couple bucks to the right person, but it's not a really common find from what I can tell. That said, this type of error is caused by a failure of the die that strikes the coins (cracking under pressure...), so every planchet that was struck with this die at this point in time (and later) will show the same die cracks as yours, if not more later on, until the die is retired and replaced with a new one.

Anyhow, it is a genuine US Mint error.

So then the ones with little clumps like the two dimes in pictures below are called Cuds correct?

On the top pic it looks like he has a big cold sore on the side of his lip and on the second pic he has two moles. One by nose and one on jaw line
