There are two of these Heraldic Art sterling so-called half dollars with the same obverse but this is one seen less often. They had a maximum mintage of 6000, but it is estimated there were fewer minted, and in the silver melting boom of the late 70's and early 80's many of these Heraldic medals were likely melted for the silver content. How many still exist is not known. They are out there to be had. I'll be chasing the other ~ Fort Sumter, to pair up with this. Been working on themes of American History in the medal area in case nobody noticed.     On 9th April, 1865, General Robert E. Lee, Commander of the Confederate Army of North Virginia, surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant, the leader of the Union Army, at Appomattox Court House in Virginia.  Edited by TNG

I won three more at a good price that were to my liking. From what I understand, there are 60 to a set. These were issued from the late 50's to the early 70's at three medals per year which were minted by Heraldic Art Medals for collectors or the US Commemorative Half Dollars to continue collecting these so-called half dollars. Maximum minted was set at 6000 but the later years were probably lower. Several of the last minted were "special minted" in even lower numbers and can be identified by not having reeded edges. But I may not have given info accurately. I have found little to go by thus far. I have noticed that strike quality is varied. Some look awful blobby and lack detail. These are better examples. Hey collect what you like huh? Something different at closer to spot if one hunts around. The price range is all over the place. There's a few I still wouldn't mind having so my hunt continues.    |
