westcoin Pillar of the Community United States 9802 Posts	Posted 07/19/2023 10:23 pm A new Coventry halfpenny getting the set of Kempson building tokens down to just a few left now, at least for the type set. The full varieties set I only have some really hard to find ones acquire now. This example is kind of blah, and have been thinking of upgrading it to a full bronzed proof example. There is a die break going through the obverse, which is on all of them I've seen. Also I'm trying out new photo editing software, thinking of dumping Adobe Photoshop for Affinity Photo full time now. I've been a Photoshop user since version 2.0 back in 1993 when it was Macintosh only and just became 16 bit software. It's hard to let it go, but I'm really liking the Affinity suite of products more, and they are much much less expensive with no monthly fees. Hopefully this image I composited looks decent, as I'm still learning the exporting in small sizes, I know it can do as good as Photoshop, I just haven't found the right settings yet, so the enlarged photo has some issue with quality at full size when compared to other images I've uploaded. Here is a short read about the Coat of Arms in Coventry: https://www.coventry.gov.uk/lord-ma...civic-life/2 Seems it's mostly religious and part warrior as the elephant is the natural enemy of the dragon which was supposed to represent the slaying of the dragon by Saint George, Coventry was his birthplace. The cat above is a leopard or wild cat and is known as the symbol of watchfulness. Missing on the token are the two phoenix, to each side of the shield, rising from the fire, to represent the new Coventry arising from the ashes after the utter destruction (I'm thinking from WWII) as they were added in 1959, around the time much rebuilding was being completed.
