I'm not too into the varieties, but I bought this as a D/D. I can't tell! What do you think?

Thanks

Hi,

Because of that little mark on the upper left serif, it resembles coppercoins 1946D - 1MM - 003...also known as CONECA RPM#003
BUT... I don't see the the doubled portion that I would expect to see to the upper right of the primary mint mark.

I lean toward no but Chuck is the one to verify this one 100% one way or the other.

Thanks,
Bill

The location for the mint mark is further North than 003. I don't see anything from the images to see a RPM on this one. Maybe under a light from a different angle. When he mentioned D/D (Proper designation for a RPM) I wondered if he meant a doubled die. But didn't see anything there also. So I see a regular 1946-D so far.

Coop,

Good points, I think though that he was shooting for the D/D question since he had such a big picture of the mint mark there.

Your Excellent observation on the position of the mint mark closes the case for me. I don't think it is a RPM.

Thanks,Bill

Thanks for the responses. I just dunno about this, I've looked at it under different angles and I don't see another D hiding. Of course I looked at coppercoins.com before I posted and this doesn't seem to fit anything I read there. I was just wondering if I was missing something or if the dealer was smoking rope when he wrote that on the 2x2?

It looked like it had a couple of dots under the MM. But that would be an old cleaning and faded die scratches. Have you tried rotating the coin 90 degrees until you gone the 360 circle. Sometimes light need to hit the surface just right. But if it is that minor it may not be listed as many rotated RPMs aren't listed yet. the stronger one will get listed, the split on the lower serif ones may not be listed as they are too minor.
