I don't really get it when it comes to grading modern NCLT coins. Modern NCLT coins are usually in perfect condition. Why grade NCLT when you are likely going get a PF69 or PF70. There is no point to it. You are just paying for a number.

Can anyone tell a difference between a PF69 or PF70 in hand, side by side, without magnification?

It is even harder to tell the difference between a PF69 and PF70 by looking a picture.

So for the coin in question, might as well make it a PF70, since it is impossible to discern the grade by looking at a picture when the difference between a PF69 and PF70 is so miniscule.

I also miss the value proposition in grading NCLT. If you are a collector, you shouldn't care about the numeric grade for NCLT. As noted above, most NCLT is delivered in "perfect" condition so there is little need to have a third party discern between 69 & 70... a distinction that would be somewhat arbitrary and really only meaningful if you were going to sell vs. retain in your collection.

If you are going to sell, understanding that most NCLT drops in value, anything you do to increase your cost of purchase only makes it harder to achieve a positive ROI.

The only reason I can see for grading NCLT is if you have a liking for the rectangular slabs provided by the TPGs and the ease of storing/displaying coins in a homogeneous form factor.

Please counter this because it is something I just don't understand... BTW, I also am confused by the trend to grade bullion issues...

Sorry to be a "downer" but...

There have only been three 2017 150th Anniversary Confederation silver dollars graded by PCGS at this point - two 69s and one 70. With such a low number of coins submitted/graded, the population numbers are not meaningful.

Hopefully, in time, your 70 will prove to be a scarce piece.
