RCM has a press release with this coin. Advertising actually works.

Just checked ebay listings for different "meteorite" coins. Some of them valued for CAD 700+ , so our coin also has a potential to grow.
Just basically, nothing special (imo) in RCM's coin. The piece of meteor - this is just variety of crystal/glass and everything else, that could be stuck to the coin. Plus some pixelized paint.

But anyway, still impressive, that RCM's coin back valued.

RCM has this "out of this world" coin advertised. CTV picked up the story and RCM's facebook feed promoted this coin heavily. At one point RCM claimed that this coin went as fast as the speed of light. Thus, the sellout. Dealers are probably holding the stock they have left to sell at a higher price in a little while. The shopping channel still has.

@New1954

Thanks for the info. No wonder this coin is hot.

West Edmonton Coin has already raised the price to $179.95.
Powercoin has doubled the price to $199.95Euro (approx $309CAD).

Looks like this coin with the help of the media turned from the item for the collectors freaks who pays CAD 100+ for $20 coin (face value) to the "must have item" for everyone.

Owning piece of meteor (in general, not coin related) makes you related to some extra-terrestrial mystery.

The latest news:

In Europe the powerful coin dealer sells the coin closely to CAD 300! And the coin doesn't stay on the shelf.
The first time, when one of the Royal Mints issues the coin with the Meteor, and it surely has the resonance in the public.

Meanwhile, GW has to cancel extra orders, so unfortunately, we not able to order 1 coin for the collection and 2 "for friends"

TSC preparing a show (honestly, never watched by myself, but it spectacular, I heard). The have to be prepare to the long queues of the customers on-line.

Lets see....

Well it's certainly a great commemorative theme ( 150th anniversary of Royal Astronomical Society) which I believe would have been popular even without the space rock - but to include the small chunk of iron ore rock from the Campo del Cielo also known as the "field of heaven" makes it's incredibly unique-
A different space rock for each coin - blows away Star Trek and Star Wars themes respectfully, as with this coin here you get the real thing from a far far away galaxy.

@Electrum

I agree that this coin would have been popular even without the rock.

Today it's selling for $210 plus shipping on ebay. A few dealers have limited stock for higher than issue price, of course.

CC&C offering at $189.95 limit one.

West Edmonton Coin was offering at $199.95, but just sold out.

Dazzling Coins at $210.
