My Q is, does such a coin exist? I thought I saw one that was a DDO but cannot find any reference to it anywhere. Anyone aware if any of these exist?

I did not take a pic of it.

VarietyVista lists a SDO, which means nearly all coins from all mints for that date have some kind of doubling. There are no proof DDOs listed.

Here are some side by side big DDR's I found that I didn't already have worked up yet for this year: (but maybe getting tired of looking at 1942 DDR quarters?)

And a FS-803 that I've never noticed before:

Love to see new DDRs I've not noticed before.

In Rogers book on proofs he says "One doubled die reverse has been identified. This die was repolished multiple times abd visibility of the doubled lettering will vary considerably"

"All reverse inscriptions are doubled with about equal visibility in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR'

Approximately one-fifth of 1942 proof quarters examined are from this die, indicating the reverse die #150 might be the source. Visibility of detail varies with the amount of repolishing."
