I was wondering if this Buffalo nickel has been altered? I am very suspicious, as there's bad damage on the fields, on the obverse and reverse side, making me think that this was a man-made "error" coin. To make this clear, I absolutely have no interest or intent to buy this off of ebay. What do you guys think? Feel free to comment. 312253283585Errers and Varietys.

Thank you silverwolf and Coop! I had a feeling that it wasn't a legitimate "error" coin. I guess the bidders are going to be taken for a ride on this one.

For starters this is a 1919-P not 1919-S

Oops! I corrected the title, and typed in the correct mint mark.

I have a slightly different concern than an alteration. The photos aren't great, but they suggest some questions. The deeply recessed area between the feathers doesn't match the field depth of a normal nickel, but the feathers seem relatively undisturbed by whatever caused the divot. The porosity in the blank area is abnormal. The feathers do not appear to be hammered or compressed. The surface seems too grainy. I am wondering if this may be a cast counterfeit.

Good observation fortcollins! Who knows, but it's definitely a fake error coin.

To me, this has a look of a counterfeit coin, IMO.

SilverDollar2017, anything is possible. Either way, it's a fake 'error' coin.
