I have a 1944 D Mercury dime that is in almost mint condition. I have a question if somebody could help me with. I am no expert at all when it comes to errors on coins and grading coins, etc. My 1944 dime had a strange mark on the second 4 of 1944 and I am unsure what this is from. Also I was told that the more defined that the bands are on the back side of the coin the more it is worth. Could anybody give me any help or information about this coin and what it truly is worth.

Thank you,

ssheridan1977

We'll need much larger pics to evaluate this correctly.

Hard to tell from those pictures (Too small and out of focus)
but the second four could possibly have taken a hit.
As far as the bands, there is no way of telling but here is an excellent thread on
Mercury Bands that you should be able to figure out yourself what you have.

To CCF! We'll need better pictures of the obverse. Try to get a close up of the 4 in the date, when you're retaking pictures.

Hey guys, thank you very much for the quick responses and advice about my post. I am going to include pictures with this reply of the 1944 zoomed in a lot closer and clearer as well as overall better pictures of everything.

I think it's just damage from a random circulation hit.
