This is my 100th post! YAY! Hopefully they're all quality posts, but I guess that's a highly subjective topic.

Anyhoo, this is a newly acquired Morgan for my collection. I am trying to ascertain a grade, and I am also trying to figure out what might have caused those abrasions just below the ear on the obverse. Could those be horrific bag marks or did something gouge this coin at one time?

By the way, the coin was still in its holder when I took these pics, so that little mark at 9:00 on the obverse is a piece of torn plastic from the cover.

There are too many marks in the fields on this Morgan for it to grade high AU. I'll say AU-50 because I couldn't see it going XF-45. -PP

And a third vote for AU-50.

It's anyone's guess as to how the coin received those marks under Liberty's ear. They definitely aren't Reeding Marks since they are irregularly spaced. I don't think they're a big deal considering this is a circulated, common-date coin. If it were mint state I'd expect the marks would limit it to MS-60 or MS-61.
