I am back from a long bat catching season finally, and all the bats should be happy in their caves now. So, as the summer went on I found a few things and I bought a few things. This is one I bought in a very large lot of error coins (over 250 coins).

I see a label on some PCGS Ikes very similar to this coin with: Double struck - 2nd in Partial Collar. But I always thought this was just a tilted collar or a partial collar. Wishing to get my labeling correct, would some of the error folks please help me out and let me know what this really is? Given the rather nice condition I may consider grading it depending on what the label would say. Thanks!

1976-D Ike Collar with some kind of tilted collar

The photos are obverse, reverse, and then edge looking straight at the date, which each following photo rotated 90 degrees further clockwise.

I'll contact Mike Diamond for this one, since I'm not exactly sure what it would be called in correct terms. The only thing I know, is it has a Partial Collar error. Definitely a very cool error coin!

The planchet was slightly uncentered and the edge shows a tilted partial collar. If the reeding accounts for more than 180 degrees of the coin's circumference, you can call it a partial collar error. If the reeding accounts for less than 180 degrees and the rest of the edge is smooth, then you can call it a broadstrike with some collar contact. Doesn't really matter.

Thanks Mike! And wow, that is a superbly clear explanation which I totally get. I'll have to take a measurement and see where it fits on the +/- 180 reeding scale, but maybe since it is going to be close to 50/50 call it a broadstrike with tilted partial collar contact and make it sound way more amazing than it is. It's nifty, but without there being some double strike involved I see no reason to grade it.
