The slabbed merc that I just bought was a bad decision for me because I like to have all my coins in an album and actually dont like slabbed coins. I want to sell it and buy a better grade barber or SL dime raw for my album. I have heard on this site that if it is going to stay in the album forever and it is as good a grade or at least worth as much as the slabbed coin, it doesn't matter terribly if you decide to sell the slab and buy a raw. For my own valid reasons I need to decide quick.
Thanks for your help

It sounds to me that you have already made your decision, Grasshopper.
Follow your heart and your slab will follow.

Lots of folks buy slabs for authenticity and grading "help" reasons and then crack them out for their albums. I see no reason why you shouldn't go that route. That is unless you can make a quick profit by flipping the slab. If you like the Merc, crack it out and make your album happy.

LH, what grade is on the slab? And what year is the coin?

You should free your dime from the slab and allow it to rest among friends in your album!

I'm not sure if they're really "resting"........I think that as soon as the lights go out there's a huge party in there !...

MLkpatrick, It is an MS-66 1945 D Merc and it is now resting and/or partying in my album where it shall stay forever.

Good on ya libertyhead! I've purchased very few slabbed coins (mainly for authenticity) and when I did, I released them from their plastic prison, and placed them in an album with friends so they can.....party all night!! :)

Slabing is for selling. And you don't want to go there. I have a 1917-s merc dime. I't loves it's 2x2 home it's now in.

I think the only concern in liberating the coin is the question of preservation. Can you really keep the coin as well preserved if you crack it out? How about you lock up the certified coin and hold it long term, and go find another raw one of that date for the album! That way you have the best of both worlds.
