This is my first post and was hoping someone may be able to help me out. I have recently acquired a box (1000) of susan b anthony's. They are all 1979(P). I was orginally told to take to the bank and that they were not worth anything. I did a little research and found that the near dates may be worth more than face value. I have opened 4 rolls up (100 coins) and found 40 of them to be near dates. As far as grading, I would guess that they are uncirculated. They have been sitting in garage for many years and do not appear to have excessive/any wear marks. If they are worth anything, how would I go about selling them or finding interested parties. I would be happy to e-mail pictures to any one interested in taking a look.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the forum. My first suggestion would be to post your pictures here for us to look at. You can follow this link Uploading Images to help you. From there we can determine if in fact you have near dates or not. Good pictures will be key, so make sure it is of the entire obverse and reverse, and try to get them to be about 500x500 pixels. Crop out everything except the coin to keep below the forum size limit.

Near dates are much tougher than people think but they probably won't bring more than a few dollars each.

Keep your eyes open for any gems of either type. Near date gems can bring quite a bit of money.

Thanks for the responses. I attempted to take a couple of pictures with my kodak 7.2 megapixel camera, but am having a hard time getting crisp images. I have better camera's at work and will try tonight. Anyone have any suggestions on what camera or settings to use to get clear close ups. I started to look close at the coins and there is a definate distinction between the near and far dates. Hope to have pictures for everyone by the AM. Thanks again.

Hi Mike,

I use a kodak 7.1 mega pixels camera (easy share) If yours is close to mine there should be a little picture of a flower on the settings wheel on top? I set to that and make sure light isn't directly on the coin because of glare. If you hold the capture button down gently (only half way) it will put a little green frame around the coin for centering. If its going to be a clear shot it wont have any red or yellow lettering anywhere around that green frame. It may look like you took a very small picture, but once you upload to your pc and crop it comes up nice and clear and large enough for detail.

When I need to really zoom in on detail, I put a 10x magnifying glass in front of the lense on my camera and repeat the same stpes as above.

hope that helps.

OK, took a couple of pics for everyone to take a look at. first is of a far date, 2nd. is of near date, and third is side by side. I apologize in advance for the picture quality. first time posting pictures. The shots came out looking tarnished, which realy does not give the coins justice. Thanks again
