I got this as change at the truck stop yesterday. I immediately noticed the "s" in states was funny looking. I can't find anything about 1968 p quarters, only the d quarters. I took some pics, and was hoping you guys could help me out with the errors on this one. Please and thank you.
Not quite sure what you see. It looks to like the "D" may have taken a hit and moved some of the metal towards the "S". But whatever the cause, it didn't happen during the striking of the coin so it is not an error, just PMD.
This is the coin without magnifying it. You can see the extra hook on the bottom of the S between united and states. It just gets blurry with the micro lens.
The mark could be a few die gouges that you are mentioning on the 'ST' area. Still no premium. They don't look like hub marks (making it a doubled die), but die damage marks. (Field contact that dented those areas)
