Just printed out the VAMVIEW 2008 Retail Price Index (July 2008) which is made available to members of SSDC and is for correctly identified and certified coins. The VAM market is alive and well, with some of them making outstanding gains (the R6 and R7 coins). So do your homework, learn about what your searching for and have more knowledge then the seller or dealer on these varieties when you do run across them. There are still plenty of good coins out there waiting for someone to find them, someone who is prepared and stands on their own will do well. Remember if your always asking others, it means you haven't read the book!!

Wuh? Huh?

Is this a for-profit promotion? Not sure this belongs here.

I don't see this as a promotion. Previous posts from ocsjr tells me that they are a passionate collector of VAM's is all and just spreading the wealth. Thank you for the post/concern though. It's members like you that help keep the forum what it is today!!

Honest concern; I hope to help. VAMView is one of the accepted authorities regarding VAMs; it's a publication of the Society of Silver Dollar Collectors of actual VAM prices realized in reported sales. They act as collectors, not dealers (although some are dealers), and are mainly concerned with disseminating information and making all VAMs more valuable by creating more VAM collectors.

VAM prices are still an "in the infancy" type of database; they're only just becoming a popular pastime. The OP's advice is sage and relevant, and I speak from ongoing personal experience when I endorse it.
