Long time spectator, first time posting. I found this in my change this evening. I had to share it. I'm new to mint error identifying. So I don't quite know what happened to this coin.

Thanks so much for making a guy feel welcome. I feel lucky to have you guys share your knowledge. I don't know if this helps but here is a picture of the rim.

Thanks for the links to the Cud images Dorado. This is more of a paper thin extra piece, attached to the edge and hanging on by what seems like a fraction of a hairs width. Folded over and struck with the partial lettering visible in the picture. Its like a hang nail, if I were to scrub it with fabric it may detach. How it made it in and out of pockets so many years amazes me.

My guess is that you have a folded-over Rim Fin. The extra fin of metal would have extended upward originally, perpendicular to the face, but got flattened by contact after the strike and began to conform to the struck design underneath.

A peeled lamination flaw would show missing metal, not extra, and a Cud would not show the ghost outline of the letters underneath. There is no pic of a folded-over example here, but this is about finning:

Overall, it's a keeper for me!

Thank you spruett001 for the knowledge and everyone else. Can't wait to find another interesting error. Even if it won't be for another 5 years.

I agree. Flattened Rim Fin. Not the area where it is starting to get flat? That is where the damage starts.
