Today's quote from the TV coin guys when referring to a bag of Wheaties. They are trying to sell them at full retail for around 10 cents each (which is too much), and they say "they really aren't common coins". Give me a break.
Anyone who is not at least semi-knowledgeable about U.S. coins will probably agree with that statement. They will think about how rare it has been to get one in their change over the past number of years.
It is also a relative thing. You could say they aren't common compared to modern cents. They make more cents in a single year now than they made Wheat cents in the entire 1941 to 1958 period and probably pretty close to more in 1 or 2 years as for all the wheat cents produced.
