I think it'd probably be a tougher task to mechanically simulate wear from circulation, at least through sanding or buffing, than it might seem on the face of it. I can conceive of other methods that might give some sort of believable abrasion pattern, but I'm not sure the subsequent appearance of the surfaces wouldn't still betray the ruse. As to these two specific coins, I'd remark that it's human nature that to suppose that if one's discernibly superior to the other, albeit very sightly so, to suppose that that would translate into a differential in the assigned grade, when in fact both might in fact meet a certain threshold or criterion. Perhaps I'd have been better served to have posted them separately. It'd certainly be an interesting experiment to submit them for certification one at a time.
