Hi All,

I have a couple of what appear to be silver coins which I suspect are Asian or Middle Eastern but I have very little knowledge of this area of numismatics. The smaller coin is 21mm and weighs 11.5 grams. The larger coin is 30mm and weighs 13.7 grams.

If anyone could suggest a type or point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Jack

loose54 - Nice Indian coins! The first (which is upside down) appears to be a rupee of the Bengal Presidency (British India). It is undated/frozen dated, and it from the late 18th/ early 19th century. It may be KM#70

The second is a 5 Kori of Kutch Princely state in India. It is from 1895 and is probably Y#37.5

Nice coins!

Hi Archraz,

Thanks for your reply. The information on the 5 Kori has been very helpful. As for the other coin I am still struggling to determine what exactly it is. I am now fairly convinced it is a rupee but discerning the type is proving problematic!

Look at Farrukhabad rupee, Bengal Presidency for the top coin.
Both sides are upside down.
I did check some of my books, and the coin may or may not be well shown depending on which book you use and catalog numbers may be different.

Hi Albert,

Thankyou! I have just had a look at that seems to be the ticket!

Thanks for the help.
