Hi you all.

I just went thru about 40 1993 LMC and these 2 stuck out like a sore thumb. They're not outlined on coppercoins.com, so what am I really seeing?

One appears to me to be a doubled tie and the other mostly a doubled date (but I really feel that one is Machine Doubling.)

Thanks for your responses.

Vicki

I have noticed that on a lot of 1983s also. I thank it comes from the copper plating or a heavy die stamping. It makes it look doubled. For a real double you will see a step or channel on the letters or date. And a larger pic helps. I use a scanner to decide if its a double. That way I know the coin is in it's flattest position for true dubbing to show up. Weclome to CCF also

My understanding is that these have to do with striking pressure - overpressure to be precise. They are not die varieties, which is why you will not find them on my site. They are also not errors because this is just a normal part of the wtriking process. Sometimes the coins just come out with this thin, shallow depression on the outside of the letters that make them look somewhat doubled.
