I saw this article on English Russia and thought of you metal detector heads.

Just taking a step to any village outskirts and digging a few feet deep inside the soil would reveal tons of the things laying there since World War II. Almost all the territory of Western Russia was a battlefield so if you ever go to Russia you don't need to pay a visit to an antique store, you can start digging at any place and get your part of loot.

Wow...that's quite a large piece of ordnance. It looks like an anti-aircraft round.
The projectile may not be fused, but all the same...not something to hit with a shovel.

Those are some cool finds. Not something I would want to dig up but cool all the same. I think the bones would creep me out.

Two years ago I was wading the Little River on Fort Bragg doing some fishing and saw the bottom end of a shell sticking out of the mud in about 2 feet of water. Not thinking I kicked it loose only to find out it was fully intact and about 16" long. Talk about being on edge as I don't know anything about them things. I slowly put it back in the water and called the MPs. I won't be kicking anything like that again.

"when you start to dig up..."

Uh...speaking of which, did anyone notice the lower right corner of that photo?
I think I see a set of upper teeth.
Rest in Peace

Yeah, a type of dig that would be emotionally draining, at least for me. I have hear that stateside some people do like to search sites of civil war action.

My grandfather visited Gettysburg when he was a kid. He told me that he asked a local farmer where he could find some bullets from the battle. The farmer directed him to look in a freshly plowed field. I guess there were bullets everywhere.
