Not seeing this in my 1800's+ books so I'm assuming it's 1780-1790 which I am not familiar with

Nevermind, I found it

It's a Bolivian 1/2 Real from 1801-1809

FYI, it could be as early as 1791 (that's when Charles IV started appearing on Bolivian coinage, and the profile looks more like Charles IV than Charles III).

I'm having a hard time making out the assayer's initials (which is how I would determine whether this was from Bolivia, Peru, Mexico, or wherever). Are you able to make them out in hand, or do you have another way of identifying that this is from Bolivia?

Coin isn't in hand yet but I'll be able to look at it under magnification to let ya know. Top left of the obverse has a III but not 100% sure.

If it's 1700's is there a grade and price for AG?

My Krause only goes down to VG for this series, and lists $10 for the common dates.

Since Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru all made these coins, the assayer initials on the reverse are commonly used to determine country of origin. There may be other indicators, but I don't know what they are.

I suspect that the obverse has a 'IIII' (this was used instead of IV). While it could be 'III' (for Charles III), the portrait looks more like the Charles IV portrait.

Can't really make out anything extra. I'm far from an expert of this series. Want to at least get a definitive answer on the country of origin and an estimated date.
