I haven't been a regular poster for a while. Some of the old timers may remember that I buy and sell junk/antiques part time. I recently picked up a large lot of gold jewelry. Included in the lot was a 14k bracelet with 3 2000 1/10 gold eagles. I got around to checking them out yesterday and realized all 3 show doubling on Liberty. If it was just one I'd call it Machine Doubling. With all 3 showing the same thing I'm not sure. To complicate matters I looked at the one on the PCGS website & it shows a similar thing. I'm posting the link to the PCGS coin and a few shots of mine. Hopefully someone can enlighten me.

Yours is showing the same, but a bit stronger. Someone may have picked these out of a set thinking they were doubled dies, but they look flat, they are probably all from the same set of dies? If you see this same thing on the opposite side, then it is probably MD. It looks like those affected areas are reduced in size on the devices. (meaning they were normal, but the die movement reduced the size of the devices) If they were doubled dies, the target area would be in the centers of the design for hub doubling, not on the outer edge of the coins designs. (Class 9 dies react differently than the multi squeeze dies of the past, where the doubling would appear closer to the rims of the coins)

It was hard to get good pictures. Whatever it is it's clearer and more distinct than the pictures show. The only place I'm seeing this is on the bottom of the letters of "Liberty". Absolutely nothing unusual elsewhere on the obverse or reverse.
