I would save it for now. But there is no listings for the 2017-D nickels on V.V. and Wexler's JN listings stop in 2006. But knowing the nature of the single squeeze dies, I doubt that this is a doubled die. On the newer nickels the doubling is in the centers of the devices. But you have have an example of extreme push doubling. I'm going to make some side by side to put with your coins images you posted. But that is what I'm thinking it is. MD. Are the bust and building affected also? Or are these the only areas affected?
Because the doubling goes towards the center (the spread goes towards the rim), both coins are mid to late dies state, and you found two nearly identical examples on two different years, it is likely Die Deterioration Doubling. Definitely not a DDR.
