I found this new 2018 toonie in a roll missing the center and raised edges from side lettering. Anyone have any more information about this?

To CCF.

I don't know about this being an error or a garage job.

I think if it was struck without the middle, the inner diameter would show some kind of sign of the missing material.

Lets see what others think.

The raised parts on the edges is normal. The missing middle core can be done if you freeze the coin and hit the middle with a hammer. PMD.

Waffled Rim from the edge lettering.
No core - PMD, Post Mint Damage normally, but in a new
roll, strange.

.

Lets see... a 2 piece coin missing 1 part... now, does that make it an "oonie"? .

Just noticed, OP didn't say it was a mint roll. I first thought it was too, but it may not be the case. If this roll was not mint sealed, PMD on the core for sure.

I don't believe any post-1996 toonies have had the loose center section, so I too am incline to believe it being missing is "post-mint damage";
As mentioned, the edge lettering does this... other countries don't seem to have this issue, so maybe this "error" (which all rim stamped Canadian coins have) make them uniquely "made in Canada" LOL

Yeah, sloppy enough, that even the forgeries couldn't replicate the sloppiness - har-har!

The US Mint seems to have edge lettering work without messing up the edge of the coin... at one point, I had understood that our mint was highly esteemed... but now they just print colours on coins to cover up that they only put out ugly plated steel planchettes...
