If you look at the picture of the dime provided, you will see that a piece of cloth will distort the details on the coin.

What happened to your coin is that it was laying on a piece of cloth or it was covered by a piece of cloth after it left the mint. The coin was then stained by a reaction to the cloth. It is nothing more than that.

When you contradict people like CC, it bugs me. When you contradict visual evidence, it bugs me.

You need to spend 20 or 30 years to learn what things are and what they aren't then you can argue with folks like cc and pyrob and others.

This just needed to pointed out , once again, in a nice way.

Since you have probably have never seen a coin that was struck through cloth until you saw the picture in this post, you have nothing in your experience to compare to. You need to learn from this and move on to another topic.

Thanks,
Bill

Here are pictures of three different dated LMC's with similar markings/finishes etc to AMAC's coin

These are all "post-mint stained" coins?

One thing I did notice is that on all three, its only on one side of the coin, not both.

The 1977 it's on the reverse and the 1976 and 1995 it's on the obverse.

*The 1977 looks like someone's fingerprint!* Cool looking coin (IMHO)

Here is another 1995 with similar marks that also has the I&B in Liberty very weak and the bottom of the 95 in the date.

Penny looks like it sat on a wet cloth for awhile.

Not to bring up this subject again, but there is a superb example of what a struck through cloth should look like in Coppercoins forum, under the heading of "general discussion - error coins".
