Anyone have a cent clash chart? Clash is incuse from outer edge back to columns. Has the appearence of Lincolns beard, but that usually shows between the columns.

I doubt that this is a die clash and more than likely it is post mint damage. There is a slight possibility that it could also be a struck through an object. As for the die clash; the clash would constitute the edge of the beard, which would indent the die, which would appear as a raised spot on the coin. There is one more situation that would appear as an incused design on a coin and that is a dropped design element (from gunk that has filled a due recess), however, since this does not appear to be that either, the mst logical is port mint damage.

Thanks Mr. Neff. The whole reverse of this coin is heavily polished. Is it possible for post mint damage to retain the polishing lines inside the incuse area?

It could be an area where a clash could have cause some damage on a die. Most of the time clashes happen on the bust/memorial. But an overlay shows that the date could have made contact with that area.

Good question about the die polishing. If the anomaly on the coin is incused, then it is raised on the die. If the die was polished, the lines would appear heavier in the incused area of the coin. It is possible for an indent (post mint damage) to still have the remnants of the polishing lines in the incused area. The will be a bit thicker in appearance. As to the date making a clash mark on this coin, again the anomaly seen would be a bit raised on the coin's surface, much like the TY of LIBERTY seen on the reverse of some LMCs that have had a die clash.
