There is a wax seal on the back of the certificate that covers the staples. Any attemp to remove the coin from the certificate would disturb the wax and damage the 2x2. The plastic 2x2 has pretty much protected the coin and the coin looks like it was just made yesterday... no toning, oxidation or visible PVC residue.
I vaguely remember Error Coin Trends magazine from the 60's and 70's. I think it was published monthly. I did not know they had an authentication and "slabbing" service!
