I have been collecting coins for several years now. But a hard one to come across is the 1968 D nickel. I have come across 4, and my friend had been looking for one for 20 years. Until I gave him one. So is it odd or am I the odd one?
Rest in Peace

Hello twztwedflesh! The mintage figures are a little low(91,227,880) as far as the normal mintages for non-S mintmarks goes, but you can buy a nice MS63 for less than a quarter at many coin shops and circs are worth, well, 5 cents!. It is also the first year that the mintmarks moved to the obverse of the coin. Maybe they were hoarded as a result of that change. Perhaps a Jefferson expert can explain it further! Mike

It seems to be the same for the 1959P or D cent. I never found one in change but a circulated piece is probably still only worth face value.

I recently completed two Jefferson nickel collections, and that date and mint wasn't at all hard to come by. Wush I had known you needed one, and I wouldn't have put them back into circulation.

Odd, I find 1959P and D cents in change quite frequently. Just found three of them yesterday while going through a group I've had for a few years. Also found a 1958D in the same group.

I used to search nickel rolls, and I encountered 1959-P and D and 1968-D nickels regularly.
