Can You Help Me Identify What Type This Deep Cameo 1981 S Half Dollar Is?

Novicecoins Valued Member United States 141 Posts	Posted 11/11/2018 2:05 pm I picked this up this half dollar from a local gas station. I believe it to be the deep cameo 1981 S type. I'm just having trouble figuring out whether it's type 1 or 2. Also, had a question on the thickness. When I picked it up I immediately could tell it was thicker than other half dolllars. I didn't know if that was norfoe the year or what. I took a photo to compare to another 65 half dollar. Report this Post to the Staff

BigSilver Pillar of the Community United States 2843 Posts	Posted 11/11/2018 5:27 pm About the thickness, I believe that you are refering to the squareness of the rims. The coin itself is probably the same thick, but the thickness of the proof coin is even throughout. Report this Post to the Staff

Just holding it between finger and thumb you can tell the difference. So like if I were to lay it flat, the rim or edges of the coin would be higher than others. If that makes any sense. I was leaning towards type 1, but that it appears to have the balls on the ends like type 2. This is why I was having a hard time with it. It's hard to get a good shot because the light reflects off the mirror like back. When I dimmed my microscope light it wouldn't come out clear in photo. Report this Post to the Staff
coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 11/11/2018 7:04 pm You have a glare issue on some of the devices. (top of the motto on obv) If you used a a plastic grocery bag between the light source and the coin, it might remove the glare. If you use white paper, you might be able to remove the glare and raise the power of the lighting removing the unwanted glare. Report this Post to the Staff
