So I cant find any info on this DDO penny. Not a lot of doubling on letters or date but clear as day doubling of the portrait. Let me know what I have found please.
Your coin has Machine Doubling (MD) also referred to as Strike Doubling. The devices are reduced in size, which is a marker for MD. Also, the doubling is shelflike.
Machine Doubling is common and happens due to a mechanical issue with how the coin is struck. Not a doubled die and doesn't increase the value of the coin.
In this particular case, it is also known as "Portrait Doubling"...as MD seems to happen often enough on the portrait that they gave it a special nickname.
