SilverDollar2017 Pillar of the Community United States 8715 Posts	Posted 11/13/2018 12:50 pm Your coin has Machine Doubling (MD) also referred to as Strike Doubling. The devices are reduced in size, which is a marker for MD. Also, the doubling is shelflike. Machine Doubling is common and happens due to a mechanical issue with how the coin is struck. Not a doubled die and doesn't increase the value of the coin. More info here: https://errorvariety.com/OFD/MD.html In this particular case, it is also known as "Portrait Doubling"...as MD seems to happen often enough on the portrait that they gave it a special nickname.
