I have these two 1945 S Wartime nickels and am curious what type of event caused this on the serifs. Die wear? DDD? It seems as if I had seen something on this quite some time ago but didn't pay much attention to it as I tend to search for cent errors. Insight please.

The prominent serifs look pretty normal for a 1945 War Nickel, but there are also signs of Die Deterioration.

Thank you all. I knew I would get the correct diagnosis.

It's a combination of the normal design and some Die Deterioration.
