My favourite 2018 RCM release is the Carousel Coin.

I think, I was excited about several coins this year, but the recent one - the Silver Gold Plated Sovereign - for me is the winner. Unfortunately, this is 'repeated' design, and would be official contest (for the RCM 2018 coins) - the Sovereign will not get the winner's trophy.

I vote for the Ancestor Moon Mask gold coin. I liked the design and low mintage. I also liked this year's silver and gold Iconic Maple Leaf coins. But RCM produced too many of them.

How do you define the "coin of the year"? What is the criteria?
Otherwise, the question is really what is your favourite coin. Since it is very subjective, it could be any coin you like.
However, if you set some measurable criteria like which coin increased in value the most, there is only one coin in that category: the UFO coin. That coin really stood out from the rest of 2018 coins.

Quote: How do you define the "coin of the year"? What is the criteria? Traditionally (for the industry awards), coins are judged by their artistic merit, cultural significance, historical impact, technological innovation, etc. Short-term price appreciation is not considered -- it reduces a coin to a simple nondescript commodity vs. a piece of art that may also serve commercial needs. For me, my Top 3 are: 1. $100 Silver Angel of Victory - outstanding artistic perspective to present a historical icon 2. $15 Silver Magnificent Bald Eagles (shown above) - very powerful imagery and very well executed 3. $1 Special Edition SD 100th Anniversary of the WWI Armistice - great use of symbolism to commemorate an important worldwide event; the selective gold plating makes the imagery truly pop

Moneypenny; No question the UFO takes top coin with your criteria approach - certainly the head scratcher, most unexpected coin to appreciate in value...especially given the egg shape recycled template...all print design...still don't comprehend the buzz for the UFO coin. Commems criteria more compelling imo - and yes the SD Armistice he highlights was beautifully and symbolically so well done. In fact so many war commemorative coins for 2018 were fantastic designs Dieppe especially including the two dollar twoonie

I believe the coin of the year will be the Double Sided Concave Loonie.

I received advance notice last night of the December release.
In addition to a number of series continuations (or finals) such as the 25c Big Coin or the final Historical Stamp & Grandmother Moon coins there is a 10oz silver double concave Brown Bear for $999. Either on its own or as part of a 2 coin series with the second issued in February featuring Wolves.
I guess technically it is 2019 dated but it will ship from December 4th.
