My mother has recently gotten a bunch of Eisenhower dollars. She has found several of every date but 1973, of which she has only found 1. When I looked them up on " ebay" I can only find proofs. Were Eisenhowers not released for circulation in 1973? Can anyone tell me why this one year is so difficult to find among circulated coins?

1973 dollars were issued in mint sets only. they carry a slight premium in mint state grades.

They sell for $6.50 each in typical uncirculated condition.

Choice Gems can get extremely pricey and the Philly issue is rare. It lists for nearly a couple thousand dollars.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Did your mom get any other coins besides the Ike's ?
How did she get these ?

Congrats on the acquisitions regardless !...

Ikes aren't a massively favorite coin by the general coin collector I don't think......unjustly so, though......(right Jbuck ?)
These giant dollars just kind of get forgotten and ignored.......

My mom and step-dad have been building up collections lately, Morgans, Franklins, Ike's, and Silver Eagles. Of course her penny collection keeps growing as well!
She got some of the Ike's from her local bank, some from an auction and some from ebay. They have a very nice collection. We just don't know a lot about the different years, etc. of the coins.

03krafty, I would recommended getting this book:

The Authoritative Reference on Eisenhower Dollars

By: John Wexler, Bill Crawford and Kevin Flynn

Look for the 2nd Edition. It has pretty much anything you want to know on Ikes. It can be hard to find, but I got one from abebooks.com.

Man !.....Is there any way in "changing banks", to avoid coin collecting tellers and other bank employees, that I could "ask inside" or "announce" that I will NOT join this bank if any of you are coin collectors and will take away or have first dibs on stuff coming in here !
