Its a real shame about the scratches/damage on this coin. I was not able to detect the obverse scratch in the 2x2 holder. The reverse, I had noticed a nick in the M of America, but had no idea it was this bad. I can still barely detect the obverse scratch in a coin-flip, and I know what I'm looking for. The reverse scratch is more visible now.

So, I have a new exercise. I'm going to practice examining coins through 2x2's and coin-flips.

New pictures taken in daylight.

Angled to try and capture toning.

The mark at 12 o'clock on the reverse may indicate solder removal and should cause investigation to see if there is any damage on the rim in that area in case it may be ex-jewelry.

The scratch wouldn't be enough to detail it. I doubt that spot is solder. I would say 55 probably 58.

Good observation. I looked and didn't see anything on the rim. It is difficult to tell what that mark is.

I may try to get a couple of other pictures tomorrow that show the true color. It has a nice toning on the reverse.

Ugh ... better pictures is not my strong suit. I'll try when the sun comes up and I can get some natural light.

I'd venture at least 55, but I'd like to see a better pic of the upper obverse.

I edited the original post with more pictures. I had not seen Coinfrog's comment, so please let me know if this will suffice.

AU-58 details, scratch and most likely once cleaned judging by the color.
