Found this penny in the lot of 1957-D Lincoln's. It appears that die problems in this date are very common. Has anyone else come to that conclusion. Of the approximately 350 1957-D Lincoln cents I have, after going through about 200 of them, I have found about 25 die chip, or die fill errors.
This one here seems to be about the oddest one so far.

Ultra violet images do not help in looking at coins,images need to be as natural as possible like your first and third images. Nice struck through filled Die!

I agree--nice pick-up and worthy of a home in a 2x2.

Chase;

I understand it is not a mainstream concept to use Ultraviolet.
HOWEVER, it reveals slight details not visible to the natural naked eye.
I find it especially useful when trying to determine lamination error as compared to Struck through. The ultraviolet will reveal variations in the level of the surface of the area in question, where a struck through will show both sides of the area are level ( in an open area of the surface, both sides being the same color ). This can suggest to me which flaw I may be seeing, as level on both side of the line indicates, or suggests a foreign item made the line, whereas if the coloring varies from each side of a line it indicates a change in level of the surface, which indicates to me the possibility that the surface is lifting on one side compared to the other.

I am fairly new to the Microscope genre of inspecting coins. I just find experimenting with effects fun. In Gemstones for example, lighting can quickly identify a real or fake stone.
I agree, I have a lot to learn.
