I just wanted to share this, as it's very interesting. Here's the seller's notes. "This coin is not even supposed to exist! It is the only pre-1965 nickel ever minted on a (then-experimental) CLAD dime planchet (that we could trace). Clad coinage did not officially begin production until 1965. It is a Type 2 (prepared) planchet. Whether erroneously or deliberately made, the piece should have been destroyed yet somehow escaped federal custody. But it is now legal to own, to the delight of the numismatic community."

And here is the seller's description. "This is certainly one of the most unusual coins that we have ever seen. PCGS calls it an error but it may have been deliberately made for testing purposes. We bought it incredibly cheaply, no doubt because the seller and potential buyers believed the PCGS description to be a mistake. But the planchet is unquestionably clad and meant for a U.S. dime. And again, it is the only pre-1965 nickel ever struck on a CLAD dime planchet (Type 1 or Type 2) that we could trace using our extensive resources." 273422239199

Dimes at that time were still silver, for 3 more years. Cool read,I have not heard of that before. Maybe it was minted on a foreign country blank?

That's a lot of money for a Jefferson nickel.

To the best of my knowledge only two countries have used copper nickel clad copper planchets, the US and Panama. And Panama used it because the US was striking the Panamanian coins using US planchets. And the clad Panama coins didn't start until 1966.

Thank you all very much for your input! I figured I would share this on here, because it's a very interesting and a very unusual item on ebay. The seller said in his notes, that this could of been intentionally made for testing purposes. If I was rich, I would buy it.
