Hi all... Was inspired to look at some modern quarters with the help of Coops awesome post "Where to look for doubled dies on the ATB Quarters"... although I know I wasn't supposed to be paying so much attention to the incuse lettering on the outside...hence is where I found something strange. I am not so experienced at seeing doubling on incuse. I have been fooled before... But this looks different than my former mistaken doubling... need help please! Please take a look see... if needed I will post more pics. Thanks!

Possibly a doubling on bottom of the top rifle barrel? Yes and I see the chip at the end of rifle barrel... ;) Mostly what I see is on "ERS" on Rodgers... maybe the incuse lettering is thinner? I am thinking I am tired tonight and eyes are playing tricks...

Late night trying to find out more info... Think I found my own answer... this would be just MD...? Since the ATB Quarters are all made using the single squeeze method... doubling will be at the center of the coin, hence Coops post... Still reading and trying to digest it all!

Yep, just MD. You're figuring it out.
There are no known DDRs that have the outer lettering doubled. Also, since the outer lettering is incuse, a doubled die would make those letters thinner like E PLURIBUS UNUM on the major shield cent DDRs.

Machine Doubling...the devices are increased in size on incused devices, so not a DD.

Thanks for the replies... and the IMG Coop! Was trying to figure out what incuse doubling would look like!
Found it interesting reading about the single squeeze die... and how doubling is mostly happening on center of quarters reverse. Interesting that the single squeeze effects the cents toward the rim...
Anyways... I also noted the die chip out the end of the rifle barrel is part of the design ;)
But I did also have a question on my 2nd image of the rifles... where the two barrels meet. On the bottom of the top rifle, below the wrist, I think I am seeing doubling... is that just MD as well?
THANKS AGAIN!

Either MD or damage. Note how the metal is rising upwards. That tells me the metal was moved from that area. (Like snowplowed snow)

Gotcha... Thanks Coop. I did notice a bit of that rise in metal going on there :) I really appreciate your help and patience in answering my questions... I'll get there one day

When you do, then you start thinking? How could this happen during the mint process, or how can this not be a mint process. But you'll get there. It takes times. Sometimes later I will come up with a new solution. (sometimes I get woke up at night with one)
